Are Leggings Ok?

Leggings have been a topic of question since the 1980’s, to wear or not to wear? While this trend may look adorable on the pre teen crowd it is important to keep these pointers in mind if you are planning on pulling off this look. First, keep in mind the color and fabric. You should never wear a legging that is any color other than black, charcoal grey or dark brown. Light colors only enhance all things bad! Light colored leggings also can also appear quite sheer which is a look no one should try achieving. The fabric of the legging also plays a big part in the overall look and fit. Cotton leggings are extremely casual and are the most telling. A thicker, higher quality fabric like leather will act as a camouflage and hold everything in a bit tighter.

Second, keep in mind the shoe. Ballet flats are the way to go when it come to leggings. The ballet flat provides a classic look to balance the sleek look of a legging.

Third, keep in mind your body type. Leggings are without a doubt tight and they show every lump and bump. They often cling to unmentionables and accentuate love handles with their tight waistband. So be sure to take an honest look in the mirror before heading out the door. If you hate your calves or believe that you single handedly have inherited more cellulite than anyone else on earth you will be self conscious in a pair of leggings and this insecurity will show.

Lastly, keep in mind your age. I personally feel that anyone over the age of thirty should steer clear of this bottom hugging phenomenon. If you want to parade around at home, by all means go for it! Leggings are strictly casual wear and I have no problem with leggings being worn as lounge pants in the comfort of your own home.

Hopefully these tips have given you something to think about! Leggings are a tricky subject and everyone has their own opinion of them. What do you all think, are leggings a yay or nay?
