Music royalty hit the red carpet last night for their turn at industry recognition, glamorous gowns and enviable after parties. The Grammy awards have always been a favorite of mine based solely on the fact that the fashion choices are far more daring and forward thinking than other similar shows. So much so that CBS sent a memo to stylists cautioning them to keep their clients looks subtle, nothing too extreme this year. Fortunately, no one paid that (perhaps Jennifer Lopez inspired) memo any attention and the fashions did not disappoint. Grammy Fashion Favorites
Florence Welch – Gumbi, Chameleon, Dinosaur…all words I heard used to describe the vibe of Florence Welch’s spikey green getup. Her courageous fashion choice is what the Grammy’s is all about. Everyone is waiting for that “WOW” moment and last night it deservedly went to Florence!
Beyonce – Beyonce can do no wrong in this black and white pantsuit. We all know black and white is fabulously on trend this spring, pair that with an exquisitely tailored pantsuit and you have one of my favorite looks of the night. The length of the pant is perfect, showing off a little ankle and a fabulous shoe.
Rihanna – Queen of the night! Rihanna was stunning in this custom Alaia gown. Her soft waves, red lips and no nonsense dress took her to the top of every fashionista’s favorites list. Let’s not forget about that two-piece white and gold sparkly number she wore for the Bob Marley tribute. Can you say incredible?
Kelly Rowland – Look out Beyonce, Kelly might have shown you up! My without a doubt favorite look of the evening. This sheer paneled cut out dress broke every rule on that memo but the end result is gaze worthy. Her simple hair combined with the sleek silhouette of this gown was simply breathtaking. Best dressed!
Adele – This one will raise some eyebrows. Either you loved or hated Adele’s Valentino floral print dress. I happen to be a huge fan! Adele is the queen of black and seeing her venture outside of her comfort zone into color (much less a color and a print) is a breath of fresh air. The Grammy’s is all about the punch, the risk takers, and I thought Adele pulled this look off beautifully.
What did you think of the fashion choices at last night’s Grammy Awards? Do you agree or have I completely lost my mind?
