“And the Academy Award goes to…” Such music to my ears! This weekend is Oscar weekend and I could not be more excited. I obviously anticipate the red carpet fashions but am just as eager to see the show. Each year I make it a point to try and watch every best picture nominee. I always have my favorites and feel a bit disappointed when my preferred actor or actress isn’t called. I imagine myself in the winner’s shoes and I can’t comprehend what that moment must feel like, what an incredible accomplishment. Hollywood has rolled out their red carpet for the deserving starlets and what better way for you to partake in this weekends festivities than by rolling out the red carpet and hosting a few of your friends. Throwing your own Oscar bash is simple and with a few quick ideas your guests are guaranteed to have a Hollywood worthy time.
First – You need a party dress! Nothing will get you in a glamorous mood as quickly as throwing on your favorite black dress. Dress it up with glitzy gold accessories and coat your nails in a sleek gold polish. This black dress with gold belt from Asos compliments the Oscar color scheme beautifully.
Second – Every party needs fun drinks, check out three Hollywood themed recipes here. Keep a bottle of your favorite wine or champagne cool in this festive ice bucket (only $22) that again highlights our Oscar color scheme.
Third – An Oscar party would not be complete without a few fun treats. An elaborate cake like the one pictured above is so far outside of my baking comfort zone that my heart races just thinking about it. I have chosen a less professional route and will be picking up gold cupcake wrappers, red velvet box mix, chocolate frosting and red raspberries to create an equally appropriate dessert! The gold wrappers and chocolate frosting continue the black and gold color scheme while the red velvet cake and raspberry toppers bring the red carpet into the mix.
Finally – The Oscar’s are long (3+ hours) and party guests may get a bit antsy mid way through the show. I came across this Oscar bingo board online and thought it would be a fantastic way to keep everyone’s attention throughout the night. There are numerous layouts so each guest has a fair chance of winning. Maybe the prize is a covered plate of fabulous Oscar cupcakes to take home!
Whatever you do this Oscar weekend, I hope you will incorporate a few festive ideas into your plans. Which one is your favorite?
